The UAW, United Auto Workers, initiated a strike Friday targeting three automakers- General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler owner Stallantis. With the uncertain transition to EVs the workers are seeking better pay and benefits, as well as looking to unionize new battery factories as the open. One of the workers main concerns with the shift to EVs is that they use fewer parts than gas vehicles, which could lead to job cuts.
If the automakers don’t quickly come to an agreement with union leaders, it could cost them in the race for a piece of the EV market against automakers with nonunion workers.
