Georgia Power announced today that Plant Vogtle Unit 3, a new nuclear power unit, has entered commercial operation and is now serving customers. The new construction represents an investment in the state’s clean energy future, providing emissions-free energy to customers.

Vogtle Unit 3 is the first newly-constructed nuclear unit in the U.S. in over 30 years.

Unit 4 is in the final stages of construction and testing is still continuing, with the goal of the unit to be operational during the late fourth quarter of 2023 or first quarter of 2024. Southern Nuclear will be operating both the new units on behalf of the co-owners: Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power, and Dalton Utilities.
