Earlier this week, the CEO-led Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council (ESCC) held a call to ensure that electricity providers in the state have no unmet resource needs. The call brought together leaders from the highest levels or industry and government to coordinate and secure unity of effort across the electric power sector.
The ESCC serves as the principal liaison between the federal government and the electric power industry on efforts to prepare for, and respond to, national-level disasters or threats to critical infrastructure. The ESCC includes CEOs and executives from electric companies, public power utilities, and rural electric cooperatives, as well as their trade association leaders, who represent all segments of the industry. Through the ESCC, the industry works closely with its government counterparts, including senior administration officials from the White House, cabinet agencies, federal law enforcement, and national security organizations. Canadian electric company executives also are represented on the ESCC due to the international make-up of the North American energy grid.
With high winds and dry conditions still in the forecast, the ESCC is focused first on supporting first responders as they continue to work, with security and safety a top priority. Once the fires have been fully contained, the electric power industry stands ready to support the rebuild efforts to restore power help impacted communities recover.
