Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida last night as a Category 3 hurricane, knocking out power to more than three million customers in the state. In advance of the storm, the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) gathered more than 2,500 personnel from more than 100 utilities across 22 states and strategically pre-staged crews to respond quickly to bring the power back to impacted areas.
Duke Energy similarly prepared even as work continues to restore power in the Carolinas after Helene. Crews came from as far as Colorado, California, and Canada to help restore power. With a focus on safety, power will be restored as quickly as possible and in a sequence that begins with public health and safety facilities, and also with consideration for how to restore the greatest number of customers as safely and as quickly as possible.
According to PowerOutage.us there are currently 3,271,042 customers without power as crews continue work.
