The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) recently announced more than $518 million to support projects that will fight climate change. 23 projects have been selected for negotiation across 19 states to support the development of new and expanded infrastructure needed for national decarbonization and large-scale carbon storage projects.

  • Twelve projects were selected for CarbonSAFE Phase II
  • Nine projects were selected for CarbonSAFE Phase III
  • One project was selected for CarbonSAFE Phase III.5
  • One project was selected for CarbonSAFE Phase IV

One of the projects selected is the Grays Harbor CO2 Capture and Storage Hub. Projeo Corporation plans to determine the feasibility of storing 50 million metric tons of CO2 within a 30-year time frame at a storage complex located in Grays Harbor County in southwest Washington. The team will clarify project risks and conduct mitigation/monitoring planning.

DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), under the purview of FECM, will manage projects selected under this funding opportunity. Additional details about the selected projects can be found here.
