Constellation, an energy company that provides electricity and natural gas to customers in 16 states and Washington, recently signed its largest-ever power purchase agreement. The 20-year agreement will restore and restart Unit 1 at Three Mile Island, with Microsoft purchasing electricity generated by the plant to offset power demand from its data centers in the region.

The restart will launch the Crane Clean Energy Center (CCEC) and is expected to come online in 2028, with significant investments made to restore the plant, including the turbine, generator, main power transformer and cooling and control systems. Approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will also be necessary, and Constellation will be pursuing a license to extend operations to at least 2054. The CCEC is expected to create 3,400 direct and indirect jobs and add more than 800 megawatts of carbon-free electricity to the grid.
