President Trump has delivered on his promise to ease the aggressive push led by California, the California Air Resources Board, and other states to mandate the transition to electric vehicles. Last week, Trump signed three Congressional Review Act resolutions that rescind EPA waivers for California’s EV sales mandates and engine rules.

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown joined the lawsuit aiming to save the rules, which have been adopted by more than a dozen states. Washington also signed on last month to co-lead a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its cancellation of billions of dollars in funding to pay for EV charging infrastructure.

The regulations in question affect passenger vehicles beginning with model year 2026, requiring 35% of new passenger vehicle sales to be EVs and scaling up to 80% zero-emission and 20% plug-in hybrid by 2035.
